Background

Studies of the sea, using standard methods, to characterize broad- to micro-scale regions, principally in terms of spatial distribution of properties and resources, sometimes secondarily in terms of temporal resolution of changes. These efforts often employ regular grids or transect lines to direct the sampling. Impact of environmental injury are usually assessed this way, using a sampling pattern that covers impacted and non-impacted areas
